Chronicle of the New Place Part 2

My place is starting to look an awful lot like an actual home now! The paint is up (yay the new color is much nicer) in the living/dining room and the bedroom. I've opted to keep the 2nd bedroom the original lighter color as it will be more condusive to working by. I'm holding off on the kitchen/bath for now until I dive into the renovation of both of them.

After three months of scouring Craigslist, I found an estate sale that had a lovely brass & crystal 6 light chandelier for sale, so I popped out as soon as it opened, and got it for a pretty decent price. (It came from the apartment of an elderly lady who had absolutely loved leopard print. I find it somewhat ironic that it has moved into another space of a leopard-print-ophile)

Picked up some nice glossy black spraypaint, pulled all the crystals off and washed them, then spray painted the brass shiny black. it looks gorgeous! and will definitely be a huge part of making my boudoir look like a classy bordello LOL!

My other big project this weekend was making the curtains for the bedroom. I went out and got 18 yards of 120" wide black sheer fabric (Thanks Jazz at Rokkos!! He always gives me such good deals!) Cut, cut, iron, iron, sew, sew, repeat 6 times. I was rather proud of myself - I'd gone and bought the Ikea wire curtain hanging system, but after helping friends hang some eye-bolts and chain from their ceiling, I opted to get wire, eye bolts, hooks, and clips from Home Depot and i'll return the Ikea system. What I ended up with was less expensive and almost invisible. ...and I now have floor to ceiling black sheer curtains across the back wall and partially up the sides behind my bed. It looks very luxurious!

Chronicle of the New Place

So, I moved into my first SELF owned place over the weekend. It had snowed the night before. I got a call from one of the friends who had agreed to help me move asking if I had a snow contingency plan. ...when does it snow at the end of February in Vancouver?!?! I won't go into the gory details, but suffice to say the move was cold, wet, and not terribly pleasant....but, it got done!

Day two (Feb 28): after cleaning my old place and returning the keys, I went home (home! really home!!!) and a friend came by to help assemble my bed and install additional hanging space in my master bedroom closet (really, how does ANYONE function with only 39" of hanging space?!?!) I mostly unpacked the kitchen, before excavating a chair to sit in, plugging in my tv (managed to figure out how to get the cable working!), and sat - looking at the triply beautiful sight of fireplace, tv, and gorgeous view of the downtown Vancouver skyline.

I contemplated a hot bath, and realized that I couldn't move.

March 1: slept myself out (god I needed that!) and then hit Ikea for a few essentials, and ran some errands and had a friend who actually knows what he's doing properly hook up my cable and internet (YAY!). Last second invite to Legally Blonde the Musical?! AWESOME! ...the real test, was could I go from sweaty tee & jeans to a dress and rhinestones in less than 45 minutes. YES!

March 2: After a half day of work I met up with the friend who's helping me paint, and we went to Home Depot to pick up supplies. Spent the evening painting my bedroom. Ugh. The color is too orange. I wanted a nice warm tan... Back to the color chips.
